The Liquidation Shop:: HARRY POTTER & CHAMBER OF SECRETS - GC - NINTENDO GAME CUBE (GameCube Games)

Publisher EA has clearly directed developer Eurocom to capture the look and sound of the movie as closely as possible. Visual highlights like the flying Ford Anglia and the Whomping Willow are captured perfectly, as are the faces of stars Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter), Emma Watson (Hermione Granger) and Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley). Note, though, that EA didn't get the rights to the faces of adult stars like Alan Rickman (haughty Prof. Snape) and Kenneth Branagh (self-absorbed author Gilderoy Lockhart). Developer Eurocom took advantage of the GCN disk's huge storage capacity to stir in plenty of cinema sequences. The voices are mostly done by unknown but highly capable actors. It's a tribute to the talent of the writers that these sequences both entertain and provide a compelling reason for the next slice of action. Flipping for Flipendo The opening sequence, in which Harry is getting some much-need R&R at the Weasleys', is a smoothly done tutorial on moving, casting spells and checking your extensive inventory. Harry must use his Flipendo spell to rid the Weasleys' barn of troublesome gnomes, then hurl them into nearby fields. (What the neighbors might think is never explained.) Eurocom generally sticks to the movie, but isn't afraid to add game-appropriate elements. Gamers will get a kick out of quieting a quarrelsome washing machine with a few expertly cast Flipendos. Harry collects school supplies and runs errands in Daigon Alley before taking off with Ron in the flying Ford. Their crash-landing at Hogwarts earns them the instant enmity of Prof. Snape. Hogwarts is one adventure after the other -- broomstick-riding, helping rescue a boy trapped behind a tapestry in the Gryffindor Common Room -- as Harry and his friends gradually learn of the mystery at the game's center. Minigames like gnome-tossing provide a break from adventuring. Visually, the developers did a good job of capturing the subdued English sunlight. The particle effects from Harry's always-present wand are lovely, although it would make more sense if he could hide the wand while skulking about. Texture maps and character models are good, but lack the level of detail the GCN is capable of. The fine score subtly accentuates each scene. Links with Game Boy Advance You can link with Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets for the Game Boy Advance to unlock a brand-new area that can only be found on Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets GCN! If you have a Game Boy Advance and a Nintendo GameCube Game Boy Advance Cable, you can download a sliding puzzle minigame to your GBA. The puzzle features concept art from Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets GBA. You don't need Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets GBA to get this bonus. Genre: Sports Players: 1-2 Take to the air in the first game that allows players to fully experience the magical speed, power, and competition of Quidditch, the favorite sport of witches and wizards, in the Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup game. For the first time, gamers will experience the full complexity and exciting challenge of Quidditch, which involves two teams of seven players who fly on broomsticks, playing four balls simultaneously. Players will control every position on their team, including three Chasers who try to score with the QuaffleTM, two Beaters who control the dangerous Bludgers, the Keeper who protects the goal, and the Seeker who chases the elusive Golden SnitchTM that must be caught to end the match.
